What the free walk-around covers

Think of it as a thorough health check for the vehicle. It takes the guesswork out of what needs attention, and it costs you nothing. Afterwards you get the findings in plain words, sorted by what matters now and what can wait. Plenty of people book one before a long trip, before winter, or after buying a used vehicle with an unknown history, simply to know where they stand.

  • Brakes: pads, rotors, fluid and lines
  • Lights, wipers and tires for wear and damage
  • Steering and suspension: joints, shocks and play
  • Fluids and leaks under the engine and transmission
  • Belts, hoses and the cooling system
  • Anything you have noticed lately

Why it is easier with one shop

Having one trusted place that knows your vehicle, and every vehicle in the household, saves more than driving time. It means the history is in one place, nothing gets done twice, and the advice you get takes the whole vehicle into account.

One shop, every vehicle

The family sedan, the commuter SUV and the diesel pickup that tows the trailer can all come to the same place. The shop gets to know them, their histories stay in one place, and you get one number to call for all of them.

The cause, not a guess

Faults are tested and confirmed before parts are ordered. That keeps bills down, stops the same problem coming back a month later and gives you an explanation that fits your vehicle rather than a generic one.

Honest repair-or-replace advice

Big engine or transmission trouble gets two prices, repair and replacement, plus a plain opinion on which is sensible given the age, mileage and value of your vehicle. Sometimes the honest answer is neither, and you will hear that too.

You set the pace

Findings come sorted into what is urgent for safety, what to plan for and what is simply wear. You decide what happens and when, and nothing on the list is started until you say so.

Two good times for a walk-around

Late autumn, before the first real snow, is the moment to check coolant strength, wiper blades, brake condition and anything that has been making a new noise. Late spring, after a winter of cold starts, salt and rough roads, is the time to look again at suspension, steering and fluids before summer trips and towing season. Both visits take the same free walk-around, and both tend to catch the small things before they become the expensive ones.

Four easy steps

  1. 1

    Give us a call

Ring the shop, describe what is going on, or simply ask for a look-over, and choose a day and time that suits your week.

  2. 2

    Free walk-around

The vehicle goes on the lift for a proper look at brakes, suspension, fluids, leaks and anything you mentioned on the phone, with nothing charged for the look itself.

  3. 3

    Your options

You hear what we found, what each repair would cost and what can safely wait until your next visit. Nothing is started without your go-ahead, and there is no charge for the walk-around either way.

  4. 4

    Fixed and road tested

The approved work is completed and test driven on the kind of roads you use, and we phone you once it is ready for pickup.

Questions worth asking first

Why does my car pull to the left or right?

The usual suspects are low pressure in one tire, a brake caliper that is dragging, or a worn steering or suspension part. If it pulls harder when you brake, the brakes come first. The free walk-around checks all of these, and if the cause is outside the work we do, we will tell you.

Can you handle my diesel truck?

Yes. Light-duty diesel pickups and SUVs, including the common Ford, GM and Ram diesels, are worked on here: hard starts, smoke, lost power, regeneration warnings and routine diesel servicing.

My engine is in bad shape. Repair it or replace it?

That depends on what failed and on the rest of the vehicle. A head gasket or a leak is usually worth repairing. Widespread internal damage may make a replacement engine the better buy, or may mean the vehicle itself is not worth the money. You get both prices and an honest view.

What are the warning signs of a failing transmission?

Watch for slipping, where revs climb while road speed lags behind, shifts that bang in or arrive late, a shudder at light throttle, red fluid on the driveway and a burnt smell after towing. The sooner it is checked, the more repair options remain on the table.

Does using an independent shop affect my factory warranty?

No. The law lets you choose where maintenance is done, provided the work sticks to the maker's schedule with parts that meet its standards. Keep every invoice; together they are your service record.

What does diagnosing a problem cost?

The walk-around is free. If a fault needs proper testing, such as tracking down an electrical issue or a drivability problem, the testing is quoted before it starts, so you know the cost of getting the answer up front.

The check engine light is on. What should I do?

A steady light with normal driving means book in within the next few days. A blinking light means the engine is misfiring right now, which can cook the catalytic converter, so take it easy and phone us. Should the temperature needle climb as well, stop somewhere safe and switch off.

Serving Empire and the upper Clear Creek valley

Between the I-70 grades and the climb up US-40 toward Berthoud Pass, vehicles here work hard, and winter adds cold starts, mag chloride and frost-heaved roads to the mix. That is why the walk-around pays close attention to brakes, cooling and transmissions. These are the towns closest to the shop; if yours is a little further out, call and ask, because a clear description on the phone lets us plan the visit properly.

Not sure what that noise is?

You do not need to know what is wrong to call. Describe what you hear or feel, when it happens and roughly when it started, and we will set up the free walk-around and take a proper look.
